Stanton County Burn Ban

3/13/2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Temporary Burn Ban Issued for Stanton County
Effective: Immediately (Thursday, March 11 at 11:30 AM)
Expires: Until further notice
Fire Chief Jon Shoemaker, acting under the authority granted by Kansas emergency statute, has
issued a temporary burn ban for all of Stanton County effective immediately.
Due to current environmental conditions that significantly increase the risk of rapid fire spread,
along with widespread extreme fire danger and Red Flag Warnings across much of the state, a
burn ban has been enacted for Stanton County.
Limited firefighting resources statewide during these conditions may impact the ability to
respond to large or fast-moving fires. In an effort to protect lives, property, and natural resources,
the burn ban will remain in effect until it is officially rescinded.
The following activities are strictly prohibited throughout Stanton County during the burn ban:
• All outdoor burning, including brush piles, debris burning, and land clearing burns
• Open campfires and recreational fires
• Burning in barrels
• Any other open flame burning not specifically authorized
This burn ban applies to all areas of Stanton County.
Enforcement
Willful violation of this burn ban constitutes a Class “A” misdemeanor. Any person convicted of
violating the ban will be subject to penalties as provided by law.
Public Safety Reminder
Residents are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant. If you see smoke, fire, or any uncontrolled
burning, report it immediately by calling 911.
Updates regarding the status of the burn ban will be provided as conditions change.
